Keep your home organised in 2020!

It’s a brand new year. Chances are you’ve probably made some resolutions…Why not add one more to the list? It’s time to get more organised around the home! Like many new years resolutions, if you don’t have a plan the chances of success are fairly slim. Thankfully we’ve got just the solution for you. Here’s a look at some of the steps we recommend you take that will help you stay on track to make 2020 your most organised year yet!

Set Reminders

It’s important to keep your goals on top of your mind. Leave yourself little reminders around the house. This might include writing small notes or simply adding a new screensaver to your phone or laptop that reminds you of your priorities in 2020. Put notes on the fridge with a magnet, or leave them near your desk. These little reminders are a great start to begin organising your life regularly. Eventually things will start to become habitual and you won’t need them at all!

Organise on the go – don’t leave things until last minute!

Start adopting a few new ways of thinking. Before you leave a room take a quick look around and see if there’s something out that needs to be somewhere else. It might be as simple as a pair of shoes on the floor or a coffee mug on the counter that you probably should have put in the dishwasher a week ago. Try and keep in mind that some things need to be cleaned up and put away as soon as you’re finished using them. If that’s a challenge for you, start slowly with this concept and adopt it as your own from here on out! All in all, try not to leave a room with your hands empty – put items back where they belong. Get in the habit of dealing with tasks when they arise and your home will be in tip-top shape!

Go easy on yourself

If your home currently looks like it’s been hit by a bomb, this can make the concept of suddenly being organised seem a bit overwhelming. Be easy on yourself and don’t expect miracles to occur in one day! Instead, set a little timer for just a few minutes every day to focus on one area of your home. If you can, plan to do this at the same time each day, or even every few hours. Maybe it’s when you get home from work or while you’re waiting for your food to finish cooking. Regardless, you’ll be surprised at how quickly those areas of your home that you thought would be impossible to declutter will be neat as ever!

The first step to an organised day? Making your bed

If you think any of these new habits appear a little too extreme to adopt, start with simply making your bed in the mornings. We’re sure you’ve heard it before, but a well-made bed really does set the course for your day! By doing so, it sends a message that you respect your space. Plus, how good is it to come home to a nicely made bed after a long day?

You don’t need to decorate your bed with 20 pillows and 5 throw blankets. If you want the process to be quick, keep it simple. Ideally this should take 2 minutes at most and your whole mental outlook may change from this tiny step! Believe us, if you do this one simple task every day, you will begin to find that the concept of being an organised human is well within your grasp.

Everyone at Elevate Residential wishes you a happy 2020! Make the most of the year and give these simple tasks a shot – your home (and you) will be organised in no time!
